World Water Day

World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.

Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. In 2015, World Water Day had the theme "Water and Sustainable Development".

In 2016, the theme was "Water and Jobs," in 2017 "Wastewater" and in 2018 "Nature-based Solutions for Water".

According to official statistics of the UNESCO’s division of water, approximately 80 percent of wastewater in the world are released in the nature that will be caused to irreparable damage to the environment, water resources and agricultural lands. As regard to National water day, some ceremonies and meetings will be held by Iran Water Resources Co. which are entitled  "Wastewater, Gray gold"
